Holy Eucharist
The Eucharist is the source of life-it is the sacramental meal that we celebrate most often when we gather. Our Sunday services are Holy Eucharist, also known as The Lord's Supper or Holy Communion. In the Eucharist, we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus; we remember the Last Supper he shared with his disciples when he gave them a new commandment to "love one another as I have loved you;" we remember those whom we love but see no longer who are present in the communion of saints; we look forward to the coming of Christ again when all shall be fed at the table of the Lord.
In the Eucharist, we come forward after being prepared in heart, soul and body to receive the grace of God. Preparation includes our own daily prayers, and the gathered community hearing and interpreting the Holy Scriptures. We are never fully prepared to receive God-it is by the grace of God we are made fit to receive this beautiful and precious meal. Holy Communion provides spiritual nourishment to do the work of Christ's reconciliation in the world until we are able to receive again. Most people make weekly communion their habit and practice.
Those who are shut-in or homebound are able to receive Holy Communion once a month through the ministry of the Lay Eucharistic Visitors. See the ministries page for more information about this pastoral care ministry.
All who are baptized, in any denomination, no matter how long it has been, are welcome to receive the Eucharist at St. Aidan's. If you are not receiving Communion, you may participate by coming forward for a blessing-cross your arms over your chest to receive a blessing.
Morning and Evening Prayer
Morning and Evening Prayer are brief services (about 20 minutes) taken from the Daily Office. They are services of contemplation, scripture, and prayer. The psalms read at these services are taken from the Book of Common Prayer, where they are divided into morning and evening psalms for each day. In this day, over the course of a full 31-day month, the entire book of psalms is read. Please check the schedule at the right-hand side of the page for the service times for the next two days.
