The Canterbury Music Team

The Band

The Canterbury Music Team is committed to providing vibrant, high-quality music to facilitate worship at the weekly 5 PM Eucharist. From guitars to violins, flutes to mandolins, piano to bass, to vocals and other instruments are employed to "make a joyful noise unto the Lord".

The Canterbury Music Team also uses speakers, mixers, and microphones to make sure that everyone is able to hear the music and sing along with confidence. The congregation is invited to sing loudly and confidently with all songs - quality is optional, but by no means a requirement.

Keith Murdock

The Canterbury Music Team plays a variety of genres and styles, from traditional Anglican hymns to songs from the Taize tradition to "old timey" gospel and country songs. Hank Williams and Johnny Cash are among the Music Team's favorite artists.

If you are interested in helping out with the Canterbury Music Team in any capacity, please talk to Keith Murdock before or after the Sunday 5 PM service.

Ushers

The ushers are the unsung heros of the Sunday 5 PM services. The job is by no means glamorous, but it is an important part of making the service happen smoothly and efficiently.

The ushers are responsible for welcoming people into the church prior to the beginning of the service. This welcoming includes distributing bulletins and other worship materials, and also answering questions about the service and the facilities as needed. The ushers must create an environment in which people feel safe and welcomed, and must be ready to serve as the first point of contact for newcomers.

The ushers are responsible for taking a tally of attendance at each worship - clergy, musicians, acolytes, congregants, and anyone else who is present. This number is used to compute the St. Aidan's Average Sunday Attendance, and must be accurately and properly recorded.

During the offertory, the ushers pass the plate to the congregation, collecting offerings and donations. Once the collection is complete, the usher brings the plate to the celebrant, who blesses it. After the service, the ushers must count the offering, record it, and take it to the church office.

Grammaticus

The ushers are frequently asked to perform other duties with regards to preparation for and cleanup after the service. These duties vary from week to week, but can include taking bulletins to the recycling, gathering song books, and generally tidying up the worship space.

If you are interested in becoming an usher, please talk to John Moore after the Sunday 5 PM service.
